One of the most lucrative Internet crimes today is impostor email, where the Internet criminal poses as a company executive, engages in subtle back-and-forth email with staff, which ends in a lure for the staff to wire money to pay an invoice, real estate down payment, or transaction payment.
Industry calls this a “Whaling” attack – first reported by RPost alongside RPost’s release of its Anti-Whaling email impostor protection service (read more). The FBI calls this “Business Email Compromise”. The Real Estate industry calls this “Wire Fraud”.
