RPost is the technology provider for The Postal Corporation of Kenya’s Postal Registered Encrypted Mail (Prem).

The Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) has unveiled an encrypted email service for high value emails targeted mainly at corporates, as its revenues remain challenged.

Post-master General, Dr Enock Kinara, said the Postal Registered Encrypted Mail (Prem) is targeted at corporate users seeking an emphasis on security in as far as their communication and documentation is concerned.

“We are targeting some 1.2 million users in the next six months,” Dr Kinara said in Nairobi after the firm launched the product. Kenya’s increasingly tech-savvy population is also coming under exposure to hackers that are costing the economy billions of money.

“We are targeting institutions such as the judiciary where we expect lawyers to utilize the technology to file cases and service their clients with documents,” he added.

STIFFENING MARKET

The latest product comes as the firm seeks to counter stiffening market conditions brought on by new players and new forms of technology which have eaten into the corporation’s market share in the last decade.

On Thursday, Mr Kinara said the latest products would enable users track important emails “and when they are delivered and opened.”

He added that customers would be able to easily encrypt sensitive emails and attachments for security or legal compliance.

Last year the firm announced it is eyeing the transport sector in a bid to grow its revenue.

Mr Kinara said then that the company was looking to introduce a fleet of the “post liner” buses to serve both passenger and parcel businesses across the country. He at the time said that the firm expects to increase its revenue from Sh3.6 billion to Sh14 billion in the next three years through the bus service in addition to its mail, courier and payment services.
